Wizard of Oz-Emerald City Lighted Shadow Box - Original Art
The Wizard of Oz, an iconic movie from 1939, was the inspiration for this original mixed media art piece. From the yellow brick road surrounded by fields of poppies that lead off in the distance to the glorious spires of the Emerald City, where a wizard makes wishes come true.
The size of the shadow box is approximately an 8"x10" frame and the inside is about 5"x7". The Emerald City was created using individual spires of air dry clay and purple fairy lights provide an internal illumination, as well as the glistening iridescent beads that sparkle in the light.
The background is painted in an ombre effect going from a blue sky to a dusky pink sunset that blends seamlessly into the faraway poppy fields where Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion succumbed to the sleeping spell of the Wicked Witch of the West.
That background is brought forward through the glass to the outside frame of the shadowbox, where the yellow brick road and poppy flowers draw you in, showing you there's a journey ahead but your goal is in sight.
There is a second set of fairy lights in warm white that are hidden behind the glass. Both colors of fairy lights are separately controlled and make for a lovely, soft nightlight.
Materials:
- Air dry clay
- Fairy lights (purple and warm white)
- Paint (water-based)
- Seed beads (behind the glass)
